Why Unit-Based Pricing, Not Quotes

On Happyn, every listing has a real price that buyers can purchase right away — by the person, by the hour, by the item, or however your business works. We deliberately don't offer a "request a quote" flow. If you've sold through quote-based channels before, this is a shift, so here's the thinking behind it — and why it tends to be better for both you and your customers.

Less time quoting, more time working

Quotes are expensive — not in dollars, but in hours. Every quote means emails back and forth, follow-ups, and revisions, often before you know whether the customer is serious. With unit-based pricing you set your price once and it works around the clock. Buyers see exactly what something costs and book it without waiting on you, which means less admin and a shorter path from interest to a confirmed sale.

Real purchases, not leads that may never pan out

A quote is a maybe. A booking is a yes. When pricing is upfront, the people who reach out are people who are ready to buy at your price — not tire-kickers comparing ten vendors. That makes your pipeline far more predictable: instead of chasing leads that might convert, you get committed orders you can plan around.

It's better for buyers too. Transparent pricing builds trust and lets them compare options honestly, so the customers you win arrive already comfortable with what they're paying.

You don't lose flexibility — you gain tools

The worry with fixed pricing is usually, "but my offering is complicated." That's exactly what these tools are for. Most of what you'd capture in a custom quote, you can model directly in your listing:

Add-ons

Offer optional (or required) extras buyers can tack on — an extra hour, a premium package, setup and teardown, a second shooter. Each add-on can be a flat fee or priced per unit.

Volume pricing

Set tiered pricing so the per-unit price changes with quantity — reward bigger orders with a lower rate, just like you would in a custom quote, but automatically.

Variations (selections)

Let buyers choose between options like Color, Size, or Package, each with its own price adjustment. One listing can cover several versions of the same thing.

Personalization

Add an open text field so buyers can supply the custom detail you need — a name to engrave, a message, a color reference. Write a short prompt telling them what to enter (up to 256 characters), and mark it required if you can't fulfill the order without it. It's the back-and-forth you'd normally handle over email, captured right on the order.

Variable pricing & variance (services)

Service prices can scale with units like guest count or hours using per-unit or multi-unit pricing. And if a job genuinely changes after booking, a variance allowance lets you adjust the final amount within a limit you set — so honest real-world changes are covered without reverting to quotes.

Between these levers, you can capture almost any pricing scenario while keeping your listing instantly bookable.
